Cherry yield will increase significantly if you feed it with a certain fertilizer in the spring.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, tells us what kind of feeding a cherry tree needs in the spring.
How to feed cherry trees in spring
The first spring feeding of the cherry tree should be nitrogenous.
This type of fertilizer is applied before the buds open; nitrogen helps them awaken.
Any nitrogen fertilizers will do, but it is better to use ammonia ones.
The dosage depends on the age of the tree. Up to 4 years – 15 grams of ammonium nitrate per square meter, from the 5th year of life – 20 g per square meter.
On acidic soils it is better to use calcium nitrate, it slightly alkalizes the soil.
