If you are not satisfied with the strawberry harvest from your plot year after year because the berries are only enough for a couple of jars of jam, then this article is for you.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told how to increase the strawberry harvest without using store-bought fertilizers.
By following just three key points, you can pick berries by the bucketful. What is the secret to getting a large quantity of large and juicy strawberries?
Proper watering
Strawberries are very demanding of moisture, this is the first thing you need to know. At the same time, it is important to avoid over-watering, so as not to provoke the development of fungal infections, which can cause serious damage to the crop.
Water the strawberries twice a day (early morning and evening) with warm water (but not after 6 pm, so that the water has time to soak in well).
Natural fertilizers
As we mentioned earlier, there is no need to use store-bought fertilizers to achieve a bountiful strawberry harvest. Instead, use natural nutrient formulations.
For example, a great option is fertilizer made from wood ash. Take one glass of ash, pour it into a bucket and fill the ash with water at room temperature. The resulting solution of 500 ml will be enough for one strawberry bush.
Another effective fertilizer can be prepared from bird droppings: pour it with clean water in a ratio of 1:3, then dilute 1 liter of the resulting mixture in 5 liters of warm water.
Mulching
To retain soil moisture and prevent weed growth, don't forget to mulch your strawberry beds.
Use straw or humus as mulch, they will not only retain moisture, but also enrich the soil with nutrients necessary for strawberry growth.
