When rats appear in the garden, most summer residents do not understand what to do and how to deal with them properly.
First of all, it is worth remembering 3 things that attract rats to the site.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, explained why rodents appear in the garden.
Eat the rest
The first reason they are drawn to gardens is the availability of food.
Open beds or poorly protected containers may contain food scraps or crops that attract rats. They may also prey on insects that are near plants.
To avoid this, you should follow a few tips:
1) Storing food scraps in closed containers.
2) Regular harvesting and no fruits and vegetables left in the garden beds.
3) Use of rat nets or physical barriers to prevent rats from accessing plants.
If the rats don't have anything to eat, they will go look for another place.
Possibility for nesting
Gardens can provide rats with hidden places to build nests. Dense bushes, haystacks or rubbish heaps can be ideal places for these rodents to make a home.
Rats prefer places where they can feel safe and will not be threatened. They can build nests in bushes or use building materials that are available on the site.
Access to water
Like all living creatures, rats need access to water. If there are ponds or running water nearby, this can become an attractive place for rats. It is also worth paying attention to places where water can simply accumulate.
