It is recommended to deoxidize the soil in the fall. While this may not be necessary in a flowerbed, the yield in the garden and vegetable patch will decrease.
Summer residents are wary of carrying out the procedure in the spring. But this is not entirely correct.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told whether it is possible to deoxidize the soil in the spring and how to do it without harm.
Is it possible or not?
The answer is yes, but as always with reservations. It all depends on the material used.
This could be dolomite flour, gypsum, and even chalk.
What you shouldn't use in spring
There are materials that are not recommended to be added to the soil for this purpose in the spring. This is wood ash. For liming, it is used exclusively in the fall and during digging.
The same applies to lime, which strongly and sharply reduces the acidity level, which is why it is better to apply it in the fall.
What to use
It is best to purchase dolomite flour, which not only normalizes the pH level, but also saturates the soil with magnesium.
It can be applied in the spring, but no later than one week before planting or applying fertilizer.
How much to contribute
If the pH is 4.5 or lower, then 350-400 grams per square meter of soil will be required.
With a pH of 4.5-5.1 – 300-350 g, and for soil with a pH of 5.2-5.6, 200-250 g will be enough for the same area.
If we are talking about clayey or loamy soil, then the given figures are increased by 2 times.
