Don't add this to the soil for seedlings - you'll have to wait a long time for shoots to emerge: advice for beginning farmers

Summer residents are sometimes forced to save money, and therefore they prepare soil for sowing seeds for seedlings themselves in the fall.

Not such a bad habit, because if you know what you're doing, you can choose the right composition for any crop. The main thing is not to add too much.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told which additives are best excluded when preparing soil.

Sand

It is necessary because it allows you to make dense soil looser, improve air exchange, and reduce water stagnation.

But sand mined in construction quarries is not suitable for this. It is better to use river sand.

Compost and humus

Of course, these are useful materials, but only if they have rotted thoroughly, i.e. they are mature and high-quality fertilizer.

Fresh sawdust

Firstly, they do not contain any useful substances. Secondly, they absorb nitrogen. There will be no benefit from such an additive for seedlings at all.

Manure

Fresh manure contains pathogens, as well as weed seeds and pest larvae.

This additive is equally harmful for the garden and for the soil under seedlings.

Used coffee

It is believed that it contains nitrogen and some nutrients, which is why the additive has become popular among summer residents and flower growers.

But in reality, the grounds only compact the soil and often cause the development of fungal diseases.

Earlier we talked about how to increase the onion harvest .
