Without additional illumination, vegetable seedlings will have a hard time. That is why summer residents are actively looking at phytolamps.

It is often recommended to use any light source for seedlings. But this is wrong. Here are some important points that every gardener who considers himself advanced should know.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told what you need to know about lamps for seedlings.

What to choose

There are linear lamps and phytolamps. The only difference is in the area that needs to be illuminated.

A lamp will also work for local areas. But linear luminaires have a larger illumination area.

And incandescent lamps

They will not give the plants the light of the required wavelength. In addition, they heat up, and the seedlings growing under them begin to stretch.

The fluorescent lamp provides the blue spectrum beam that plants need. But in addition to it, seedlings need waves of red and orange rays.

LED lights are better in this regard.

They emit waves of the blue and red spectrum, successfully replacing sunlight.

The main thing when purchasing is to pay attention to the spectrum and wavelength.

If the technical characteristics indicate that the blue spectrum is 440-450 nm long and the red spectrum is 650-660 nm, then the lamp can be used.

Earlier we talked about how to speed up the growth of seedlings.
