The summer cottage season begins with sowing vegetable seeds for seedlings. What grows needs to be carefully transported to the summer cottage and transplanted into the ground or into a greenhouse, depending on the conditions.

You just need to calculate the timing precisely so that the plants don’t sit on the windowsill for too long.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told when to sow tomatoes for seedlings depending on ripening.

Types of Ripening

Among the many varieties and hybrids, there are tomatoes for open ground, for greenhouses, and in addition, all this vegetation differs in ripening time.

There are three main groups: early, mid-season and late ripening tomatoes.

All this must be taken into account when sowing seeds.

Ripening times

If these are early varieties, the fruits reach maturity in 80-105 days from the moment of emergence.

Mid-season varieties ripen in 110-120 days, and late varieties ripen in 125-140 days.

When to sow

It's simple. The longer the fruits ripen, the earlier you need to sow the seeds for seedlings.

This means that there is no need to rush with early varieties. Their sowing begins at the end of March or the beginning of April.

Mid-season varieties need to be sown in the first half of March.

You need to keep your eyes open for the late ones. They are sown as early as the end of February.

Earlier we told you what crops are sown for seedlings in February.
