Despite the fact that there are more than enough strawberry planting schemes, in many suburban areas you can see continuous carpets formed from the bushes of these plants.
According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , such a solution has a number of significant drawbacks.
Firstly, dense plantings can lead to a decrease in yield, since the plants will not have enough light and space to develop.
Secondly, a solid carpet of strawberries makes it difficult to care for the plants: it is difficult to weed, trim the runners and harvest.
And thirdly, in dense plantings the risk of spreading diseases and pests only increases.
If you don’t want to face and then deal with such unpleasant consequences, take a look at other ways of planting strawberries.
For example, you can plant the bushes in rows on beds, leaving a distance of 50 cm between the rows, and 25-30 cm between the plants in the row. This scheme is suitable for narrow beds.
On wide ones, you can plant strawberries in two rows, leaving a distance of 40 cm between two rows, then a strip 60 cm wide and again two rows of seedlings.
And don’t forget about such an option as growing on ridges with a distance of 30 cm between ridges, and 25 cm between bushes in a row.
