Of all the berry crops, summer residents are most affected by the decline in raspberry yields.

To prevent this from happening in your garden, you need to remember the main mistakes in plant care and eliminate them.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told what leads to a poor raspberry harvest.

First, moisture

Raspberries love water and drought hits the harvest noticeably. Ideally, plant the bushes in a lowland, but so that water does not stagnate in the raspberry patch.

In summer, you must not forget about watering, otherwise the berries may grow small.

Secondly, mulch

Raspberry has a shallow root system. In summer, the top layer of soil dries out quickly.

Therefore, experienced gardeners cover the soil in the raspberry patch with mulch. This can be compost, plant tops, straw.

Thirdly, the neighborhood

Of the berry bushes, it is not recommended to grow raspberries next to strawberries due to a common pest - the weevil.

It is not recommended to plant raspberries near birches. This tree will be the first competitor for moisture.

Fourth, fertilizers

Do not add fertilizers containing chlorine to the soil under raspberries. The bush reacts painfully to an excess of this substance in the soil.

Of the folk fertilizers, you should be careful when adding wood ash.

Fifth, pruning

The most important point in caring for raspberries is timely pruning.

Dense thickets create conditions for the development of pathogenic environments and shelter for pests, and old shoots bear fruit poorly.

Pruning is carried out every season.

Earlier we talked about planting flowers together.
