There is less and less time left before planting pepper seedlings, and some questions that worry summer residents remain unresolved.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh suggests understanding one of them, namely, why you should cut off the “nose” of pepper seeds.
According to experienced gardeners, this procedure affects the emergence of seedlings, ensuring almost 100% seed germination.
Moreover, the seeds hatch not after 7-20 days, but after 5.
However, one cannot close one's eyes to the fact that mistakes made during this procedure will lead to either no shoots at all, or the plants will grow sick.
Therefore, if you decide to carry out such manipulations, first read the following rules.
1. Use sharp and clean scissors, which should be pre-treated with hydrogen peroxide or potassium permanganate solution to prevent infections.
2. Cut off the seed tips by 1-2 millimeters, just the tubercle, trying not to damage the seed inside. A large cut can damage the seed, which will prevent it from germinating.
3. Trimmed pepper seeds should not be soaked or sprouted, as viruses and infections can penetrate the cut areas.
4. Immediately after cutting the seeds, sowing should be done, so you should take care of preparing the soil in advance.
