Many gardeners know about frost cracks and the damage such wounds cause to trees.

This problem is usually accompanied by the appearance of a strange creaking sound in the garden.

A frost crack is a living wound on the trunk, a crack that causes the tree to creak in a strong wind.

Let's look at the recommendations of the expert of the online publication "Belnovosti" and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.

What can be done

Frost cracks occur as a result of sudden temperature changes, which occurs quite often during the Belarusian winter.

A frost crack may be an open crack or a bark-covered wound. Sometimes a ridge or swelling may appear on the trunk or branch.

Treatment of trees is possible with the first warm spell at the end of winter, when the daytime temperature reaches +5 degrees.

It is necessary to clean it with a disinfected scraper until the light layer is visible, treat the wound with Bordeaux mixture or copper sulfate. Then you need to cover the wound with a mixture of clay and mullein. It is better to wrap the crack with a bandage.
