There is not always room at home for many bowls with sown seeds.

There is a great alternative - growing seedlings on toilet paper.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, spoke about alternative methods of growing seedlings.

Advantages

- Doesn't take up much space.
- No need to buy soil.
- Easy to care for.
- Good germination.
- Active root growth.
- Seedlings are protected from diseases and pests present in the soil.
- Roots are not damaged during picking.

Seed preparation

Before planting, empty seeds are discarded. To do this, dissolve 30 g of salt in 1 liter of water.

The seeds are poured into the solution and stirred. After a few minutes, the empty seeds will float to the surface. They are not suitable for sowing and are thrown away.

The remaining ones are caught and dried.

Sowing seeds in a roll

There are two ways to sow seeds on toilet paper: in a roll or in a container.

1. Cut paper strips no longer than 40 cm. Cut transparent film into strips the size of the paper.

2. Place a strip of paper on the film strip and moisten it with a spray bottle.

3. Step back 2 cm from the edge of the tape, 1 cm from the top and place the seed.

The seeds are sown in one row, 2-3 cm apart.

4. When all the seeds are sown, they are covered with another paper tape, sprayed and covered again with film.

5. Roll into a loose roll.

Important! The seeds must remain in place.

6. Place the roll in a container with water, seeds facing up. If the container is large, several rolls can be placed in it. They should not be close to each other.

The container with rolls is put away in a warm and light place.

Do not allow the paper to dry out too much.

Sowing in a container

1. Place 6-7 layers of toilet paper on the bottom of the container. It will act as soil.

2. The paper is generously moistened with a spray bottle and the seeds are laid out at a distance of 3 cm.

3. Cover the seeds with 2 layers of paper and moisten them again with a spray bottle.

4. For a greenhouse effect, they are covered with transparent film and put in a light and warm place.

Note! The humidity of the paper soil should be checked regularly. It should always be moist.

5. Periodically, the container is opened for an hour for ventilation.

6. When sprouts appear, the film is removed.

Important! For any sowing method, toilet paper must be fragrance-free and unused.

Care

The preparations are used according to the instructions, reducing the amount by half. If the instructions say 1:2, then do 1:4, otherwise the seedlings may die.

The diluted fertilizer is evenly poured along the bottom of the container. If the plantings are in a roll, it is poured along the top edge.

The next feeding is applied when the next leaf appears.

Picking

The wet roll is unwound, the seedlings are removed from the paper and transplanted into the soil. The seedlings planted in the container are carefully removed from the abundantly wet paper.

If there is paper left on the roots, do not remove it so as not to damage the roots. Toilet paper dissolves perfectly in the soil.
