A stump on a plot is not only unsightly, but also inconvenient. It interferes with planning the territory, laying out beds, building structures and paths. In addition, it can be a source of rot and pests.

How to get rid of a stump without uprooting it, which requires a lot of effort and special equipment? There are several ways that will help you solve this problem with your own hands.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to get rid of a stump in the easiest way.

Burning a stump

This method is suitable for dry and old stumps that easily catch fire. To do this, you need to dig around the stump in a circle to a depth of 20-30 cm, exposing its roots.

Then you need to drill holes in the stump with a diameter of 2-3 cm and a depth of 15-20 cm at a distance of 10-15 cm from each other. Dry wood sawdust or shavings should be poured into these holes and set on fire.

The stump will burn from the inside, gradually disintegrating. This process can take several days or even weeks, depending on the size of the stump and the moisture content of the wood.

Remember to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to surrounding plants.

Decomposition of a stump

This method is suitable for fresh and live stumps that are difficult to burn. To do this, you need to speed up the process of wood decomposition using biological or chemical preparations.

Biological preparations are special bacteria or fungi that decompose wood and turn it into compost.

Chemical preparations are nitrate or urea salts that soften the wood and make it more susceptible to rotting.

To do this, you need to drill holes in the stump in the same way as the burning method and pour the selected preparation into them.

Then you need to cover the stump with plastic film or a bag to create a greenhouse effect and retain moisture. The stump will decompose over several months or years, depending on the size of the stump and the activity of the preparation.

Camouflaging a stump

This method is suitable for those cases when you do not want or cannot remove the stump completely, but want to hide it from view. For this, you can use various materials and methods to mask the stump.

Make a hole in the stump and make a flowerpot or mini-greenhouse out of it. You can plant annual or perennial flowers, herbs or even trees in it. In this way, the stump will turn into an original element of landscape design.

Wrap the stump with vines such as ivy, bindweed, maiden grapes or clematis. They will hide the stump with their leaves and flowers and create a cozy atmosphere on the site.

Decorate the stump with decorative elements such as stone, wood or metal figurines, lamps, mirrors or bells. This will add zest to the stump and make it an interesting object to look at.

There are different ways to get rid of a stump on your property without uprooting it. Choose the one that suits you best in terms of time, cost, and aesthetics. The main thing is not to leave the stump unattended, but to turn it into a useful or beautiful element of your garden.
