January is the perfect time to pay attention to flowers and start sowing some of them for seedlings.
The expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told us which flowers’ seeds should be planted in the ground right now.
Eustoma
Eustoma can be called one of the first flowers that can be sown in December or January. Shoots appear in six months, so early sowing allows you to get flowering as early as possible.
Note to flower growers: Eustoma needs additional lighting, as it needs a 14-hour daylight. At first, the flowers grow slowly, but after that they develop without problems.
Primrose
Primrose should also be sown for seedlings in December or January, since its seeds take a long time to germinate - almost a month - and require stratification for awakening, which takes another 2-3 weeks.
Tuberous begonia
Tuberous begonia also requires early sowing, because it blooms 5 months after sowing. Hence the conclusion: the earlier you sow the plant, the larger the tubers will form and the earlier it will bloom.
The optimal time for sowing is December-January, so that by the time of planting in May you will have flowering plants.
Carnation Shabo
Shabo carnation is also suitable for January sowing, as it has a vegetation period of about six months. Seedling care includes providing light, coolness and moderate humidity.
