During the New Year holidays, many people buy potted trees to plant in the spring. However, these trees often die in apartments before the spring months.

Therefore, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh decided to share tips that will help keep the tree in a pot until the end of winter, so that it survives and takes root in a new place.

It is worth preparing for the upcoming event immediately after purchasing a potted Christmas tree. Do not bring it into a warm apartment right away. The stress from a sharp temperature change can lead to the plant shedding its needles and drying out.

It is better to leave the tree on the glazed balcony so that it adapts to the heat, and then bring it indoors.

The tree is very sensitive to air humidity and usually dries out in apartments due to heating and low humidity. To extend its life, it is better to place it away from radiators and use a humidifier or spray it 1-2 times a day.

But even with such care, the plant will not live long in apartment conditions. Therefore, approximately 2 weeks after purchasing the tree, it should be moved back to the balcony or loggia.

But keep in mind that the temperature on the balcony may be below zero and the roots of the plant may freeze. To avoid this, insulate the pot or take the tree to the dacha and leave it in a greenhouse where the ground does not freeze.

Don’t forget that the tree needs to be watered – if it is indoors, this should be done 1-2 times a week.

As soon as the soil thaws, hurry to transplant the tree into open ground.
