Buying seedlings at late planting times can be a problem, especially for beginning gardeners, but there is no need to despair, because there are certain methods that will help you protect your plants.
Recommendations were shared by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
Instead of taking risks and planting seedlings in late fall or even winter, you should dig a trench.
This method is suitable for any trees and shrubs and allows you to preserve seedlings until spring, when you can start planting them.
Now we will tell you how to make that very dig.
So, after purchasing a seedling, remove all the leaves to reduce moisture loss.
Dig a hole about 40-50 cm deep in a place where melt water will not stagnate in the spring.
Please note: the hole should be sloping on the south side to prevent sunburn of the seedlings in the spring.
Plant the seedling at an acute angle and cover it with soil. When snow falls, sprinkle it over the seedlings to protect the root system from the cold.
If it is cold and there is no snow, you can cover the seedlings with dry soil. The seedlings will be well preserved in the trench until spring, and then they can be transplanted to a permanent place.
