However, if you want to get an early flower and have the ability to provide the plants with sufficient light and warmth, you can sow some types of flowers as early as January.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told us which flowers can be sown in January.

Petunia

Petunia is one of the most popular and beautiful flowers for decorating balconies, flower beds, pots and hanging baskets.

Petunia loves sun and warmth, so it needs to be sown for seedlings in advance so that it has time to grow and bloom by summer.

Petunia is sown for seedlings in January-February at a temperature of 20-22 degrees and illumination of at least 12 hours a day.

Petunia seeds are so small that they should not be buried in the soil, but instead should simply be scattered over moistened soil and pressed lightly.

As soon as the sprouts appear, the plants are transplanted into separate containers and grown until they are planted in open ground.

Lobelia

Lobelia is a delicate and graceful flower that creates the effect of a fluffy cloud of small blue, white, pink or purple flowers. Lobelia looks good in borders, alpine slides, as well as in pots and hanging baskets.

Lobelia also requires early sowing for seedlings, since its seeds germinate slowly, and the seedlings develop quite slowly.

It is recommended to sow lobelia seedlings in January-February at a temperature of 18-20 °C and provide illumination for at least 14 hours daily.

It is worth noting that lobelia seeds are very small, so you should not sprinkle them with soil: they should simply be distributed over the moistened surface of the nutrient substrate and covered with glass or film to create a greenhouse effect.

Once the plants have sprouted, they are seated and transplanted into individual containers, where they remain until they are ready to be transplanted into open soil.

Begonia

Begonia is a magnificent flower that amazes with its variety of shapes and colors. Begonia can be double or simple, large-flowered or small-flowered. Begonia is perfect for decorating flowerbeds, borders, pots and hanging baskets.

Begonia also needs early sowing for seedlings, since its seeds take a long time to germinate and the plants grow slowly.

Begonia is sown for seedlings in January-February at a temperature of 22-24 degrees and illumination of at least 16 hours a day.

Due to their small size, begonia seeds do not need to be buried in the ground. Instead, they should be spread over moist soil and pressed lightly.

After the sprouts emerge, the plants are transplanted into separate pots and grown until they are planted in open ground.
