Before you “invite” earthworms to visit your property, it would be a good idea to find out why these creatures are needed in the garden and vegetable garden.
As the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained, these invertebrates are engaged in the decomposition of organic substances, passing them through their bodies.
Hence the conclusion: the soil in the place where there are many earthworms is rich in natural vermicompost.
This is the reason why every summer resident’s task should be to attract worms to the site and create conditions for their reproduction.
The easiest way is to dig up worms in another area, for example, at your neighbors’.
For a small garden, 30-40 pieces will be enough, which in a year will turn into 300-400, however, only if you create favorable conditions for them.
To do this, be sure to mulch the beds using organic matter or introduce worms into a composter, where the atmosphere is just right for worms.
Don't rush to dig up the roots of vegetable crops from the ground - instead, leave the roots of cabbage, tomatoes and cucumbers as a "treat" for worms.
Finally, try not to use strong chemicals on the site, which cause irreparable harm to earthworms.
