Many summer residents believe that it is very important to compact the snow around fruit trees in winter.
Others believe that too much dense snow in winter has a negative effect on the tree's condition.
We propose to look into this issue in more detail.
Let us turn to the opinion of the expert of the online publication Belnovosti and agronomist Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.
Should I trample down the snow around fruit trees?
It is believed that the denser the snow, the better protected the tree's root system is.
In the spring, there will be more moisture near such a tree - a large amount of melted snow will provide the roots with the necessary amount of water.
A lot of snow in the garden is always good, as it acts as a cushion. Snow prevents the soil from compacting too much, and the roots do not freeze during the severe January or February frosts.
It should be noted that dense snow cover is not an obstacle for mice, as they can easily gnaw through wood - any snow is not a hindrance for them.
