When else but in winter to gorge on citrus fruits? Fragrant tangerines and oranges create a New Year's mood, and their peel in skillful hands turns into useful things.

We are not only talking about Christmas tree decorations, but more pressing matters – fertilizers for vegetable and ornamental crops.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to use citrus peels as fertilizers.

Which one to collect?

You can safely collect the peels of oranges, tangerines and lemons to prepare nutritional supplements.

They say that they contain more vitamins A, C, E than the pulp. In addition, they contain potassium, phosphorus, sodium and a number of other substances.

The fertilizer is safe for the soil, versatile and inexpensive. In addition, the smell of citrus repels pests.

How to make fertilizer

1. First, you need to dry the skin at room temperature or in the oven.

2. Then the fertilizer base needs to be ground in a coffee grinder or blender.

3. You can add the mixture in dry form – 2 tbsp per liter of soil.

4. To prepare liquid fertilizers, you can infuse dry whole peels with boiling water (for example, fill a liter jar 1/3 full with peels, then fill with water).

The supplement is infused for a day in a dark place. Then it remains to strain, dilute with clean water 1:1 and use once every 10-12 days.
