Indoor Plants in Winter: What Florists Often Forget

30.11.2023 16:52

Florists are well aware that during the winter months all cultivated plants enter a state that is popularly called hibernation.

However, plants do not sleep, they merely slow down their cycles, gaining strength before spring flowering. And even at home they need to be protected from adverse conditions.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist, landscape designer, told what you need to remember when caring for indoor plants in winter.

First, watering

You must not forget about watering, because the soil in the flowerpots dries out faster due to the heating devices.

In addition, it is recommended to use settled tap water or melt water.

Overwatering can be fatal and lead to root rot.

It is best to water flowers less, but more often.

Secondly, air humidity

This is another tricky moment that accompanies flower growers.

For most indoor plants, the optimum level is around 60%.

Drier air causes leaves to dry out, wilt and fall off.

In some cases, it will be useful to place containers of water next to the flowerpots.

Thirdly, light

The lack of sunlight can be compensated for by using phytolamps. It is also important to remember that not all plants need bright light, and that most do not tolerate direct sunlight, even in winter.
