Nitrates, which, when entering the human body, are converted into nitrites, are very harmful to our health.

As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained, such “additives” with food can cause oxygen starvation, have a negative impact on the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, and can also increase the risk of cancer.

The most offensive thing is to realize that products containing nitrates can end up on your table from your own garden.

The amount of nitrates in vegetables increases due to abundant fertilizing of crops growing in the beds, as well as due to improper watering.

Therefore, it would not hurt anyone to find out what needs to be done to harvest not only a tasty, but also a healthy crop from their plot.

First, stick to a schedule when applying fertilizer so you can be sure you don't overdo it with nitrogen.

Secondly, planting vegetables in areas generously flooded with sunlight leads to a reduction in nitrates in greens. In such beds with sufficient sunlight, the process of nitrate accumulation occurs much more slowly.

And thirdly, do not forget to water vegetable crops correctly - for example, in hot weather, to prevent nitrates from accumulating in the fruits, you should moisten the soil more often.
