Wood ash is a very useful fertilizer, but you can’t feed it to everything.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, an agronomist and landscape designer, tells us which plants benefit from ash and which ones it will only harm.
How to use ash correctly
Firstly, you need to be careful with ash fertilizers in the spring.
Only ash should not be added, especially in early spring, when plants need not so much the potassium and phosphorus contained in the ash, but nitrogen, which is not present in this fertilizer.
Excess phosphorus and potassium against the background of nitrogen deficiency will not benefit any plants.
During the period of budding and fruiting, ash is suitable for any plants.
The exception is crops that like acidic soils. These include hydrangeas, blueberries, sorrel, radishes, rhubarb and spinach.
