Strawberry yield depends not only on weather conditions and fertilizers applied.
The place where the popular crop is planted is also important.
Contrary to popular belief, not every plot is suitable for garden strawberries.
Problems can arise from neighboring plants, as well as from a lack of sunlight.
An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh reminded summer residents of three places that should never be chosen for planting strawberries.
Shaded areas
For full development and fruiting, strawberry bushes need sunlight.
A lack of the latter will certainly result in a poor and low-quality harvest.
Therefore, you should not place garden strawberries in shaded areas, even if we are talking about the shade created by neighboring plants.
An even bigger mistake would be planting strawberries under a walnut tree. Such a "neighbor" seriously slows down the growth of strawberries.
Next to nightshades
“Neighborhood” with potatoes and tomatoes leads in most cases to a serious drop in strawberry yields due to diseases.
By the way, nothing good happens to the nightshades themselves.
Next to the raspberries
If raspberries become a “neighbor” of garden strawberries, the first crop will certainly lose the “competition” for water and nutrients to the second.
In addition, when planted close together, both plants may become particularly vulnerable to pests.
