One of the most common reasons for the decrease in tomato yield is non-compliance with watering rules.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, talks about the three main mistakes in watering tomatoes.
How to water tomatoes correctly
Firstly, tomatoes cannot be watered directly from a well or borehole.
Water from a well or borehole is usually either too cold or too warm, and tomatoes do not tolerate temperature fluctuations.
The second mistake is irregular watering. It is often advised to reduce watering during the ripening period of fruits, but this method is only suitable for open ground.
When grown in a greenhouse, regular and not too abundant watering is necessary.
The third mistake is watering on the leaves and in the evening. This leads to the appearance of late blight and other diseases.
Tomatoes should be watered only at the roots and only in the first half of the day.
