Summer residents have realized that without proper garden care they cannot count on a harvest in the fall.
This means that in addition to fertilizing, whitewashing, pruning and processing, you also need to carry out moisture-charging irrigation. But sometimes the weather is confusing and it becomes unclear: is it necessary to water the garden if it rains.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, answered this question.
Moisture-charging irrigation has its own nuances. And it will not be possible to determine the need for the procedure based only on the autumn weather.
The purpose of autumn watering
By watering trees generously, gardeners not only improve the absorption of nutrients by the roots. Most importantly, moist soil retains heat longer, and in winter, the plantings do not suffer from dehydration.
In addition, moisture-charging irrigation compensates for the lack of moisture that may have occurred after a dry summer.
How to decide on watering
In order for trees to survive the winter comfortably, the soil must be wet to a depth of 80-90 cm. For shrubs, this norm is 50-60 cm.
Checking the soil condition is easy. You need to dig a hole 30 cm deep and squeeze the soil from the bottom in your fist. If the soil is dry and the earth crumbles, then the plantings need to be watered.
How to water
Adult fruit-bearing trees: water consumption is approximately 40-60 liters per square meter of the trunk circle. Young seedlings need 30-50 liters for the same area.
Berry bushes: the watering rate is 20-40 liters for the same area.
The entire volume of water is divided into 2-3 doses so that the moisture has time to be absorbed into the soil. It is allowed to carry out moisture-charging irrigation for three days.
