Couch grass is a very dangerous weed, as fighting the plant may be unsuccessful.
There are, of course, radical methods, but this means that for some time the area cannot be used for its intended purpose.
Therefore, it is worth learning about effective, but more gentle methods of weed control, notes Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, a landscape designer and agronomist.
What do they consist of?
Green manure
Not all green manures can cope with couch grass, but some of them show themselves well in this matter. It is recommended to pay attention to oats and winter rye.
Clover, rapeseed and peas may also be useful.
Don't forget about mulching
If you use mulch, you don't even have to worry about couch grass. The point of using this technique is not only to keep the soil moist, but also to prevent any weeds from growing.
Digging
This method is, of course, energy-consuming, but one of the most effective. It is suggested to simply dig up the area and mechanically remove the wheatgrass rhizomes that you come across.
