Don’t think that there is nothing complicated in the process of picking off garlic shoots – even such a seemingly elementary task has its own nuances.
For example, the time when you should visit the beds for this purpose is important.
The most suitable time to remove garlic shoots is when they reach 15-20 cm in length.
The arrows reach this size approximately 2 months after the plants have been planted.
You should not postpone the procedure for too long - this increases the risk that the harvest will be lost.
But there is no need to visit the beds with scissors too early either – most likely, the shoots will grow again and the efforts made will turn into monkey work.
Please note: you need to remove the arrows in the morning in clear weather – this way the cut will have time to dry and tighten by the evening.
To avoid damage, approach the garlic from above and lightly trim the stalks, leaving a small stump about 1 cm in size.
