In July, you should definitely pay attention to the grapes and look after them. Then they will please you with tasty and large berries.
Should grape manipulations be carried out in July?
Pinching out stepsons
The grapevine grows from spring until autumn. Branches are pruned in spring and autumn. If there are a lot of side shoots on the vine, the growth of the grapes is slowed down. Side shoots grow from the leaf axils, so for a good harvest they need to be removed in time.
This is done with a knife or pruning shears, above the 2nd leaf. Several shoots may grow at the cut site or the grapes may become diseased.
Don't forget to thin out the plantings. Grapes don't like to grow densely. Also, tie the grapes to the trellises during growth.
A month before, remove leaves that block the sun from the berries. Remove bunches of berries that have not developed well and are infected with diseases.
To prevent the vine from breaking, the berries also need to be thinned out.
Moisturizing
In hot weather, use 2 buckets of water per grape bush for watering.
If there is a sudden downpour in hot weather, the berries will crack. Therefore, it is better to water the grapes to avoid this problem.
To better retain moisture, mulch the soil around it.
Protect grapes from diseases
The main enemies of grapes are gray mold, true and false powdery mildew, and others. When the berries become 0.5 cm in size, spray the bushes with Topaz, Oksikhom, or Skor. After treatment, the berries can be picked only after 30 days.
