Poinsettia, with its bright star-shaped flowers made of bracts and rich green leaves, has long symbolized happiness, prosperity and comfort.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about the basic rules for caring for the “Christmas star”.
So, if you have just recently purchased a flower, give it a place on a light windowsill where there are no drafts.
During the acclimatization period, it is important to maintain the temperature in the room with the poinsettia at least 16 degrees Celsius.
After about 3 weeks, repot the plant, filling the pot with universal soil with a small amount of sand and vermiculite. Do not forget about the drainage layer.
If you strictly adhere to the above recommendations, you will be able to admire the blooming poinsettia much longer than usual.
To prevent soil compaction, loosen the soil or at least poke holes in it in several places to allow air to enter.
In summer, you can take the poinsettia outside. If this is not possible, ventilate the room more often, but remember: drafts are still prohibited.
In addition, in summer it is worth watering more often (but not with cold water). Feed the plant from spring to autumn every 2 weeks, adding a mineral fertilizer complex.
