An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told about how to properly plant both plants.
First of all, I would like to remind you that when buying flowers, you should pay attention to the condition of their underground part - lily bulbs and daylily rhizomes.
They are supposed to be elastic, without rotten roots (if any are found, they should be removed).
For prevention, the planting material should be treated by soaking it for 1-2 hours in a solution of phytosporin.
Both lilies and daylilies prefer a sunny, sheltered location with loamy, fertilized soil (peat + humus) and well-drained soil. Heavy soil can be improved by adding sand and compost.
It is better to make raised beds - this will help to avoid excess water at the roots. However, it is worth remembering that overdrying the soil also harms the plants.
It is worth planting flowers in the first ten days of May, when the soil warms up to 10-15 cm.
The depth of planting lilies is 10 cm. The distance between plants should be approximately 20-30 cm from each other. The same distance should be left between rows.
But daylilies are planted by deepening the neck by 2.5 cm. The rhizomes should be carefully distributed in the planting hole, carefully sprinkling them with fertile soil.
