To grow cucumbers, you need to create optimal conditions, because this is the only way you can achieve a truly good harvest.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what steps should be taken to prepare a bed for cucumbers.
1. Choose a suitable location.
Cucumbers prefer a sunny place with sufficient light and heat. It is best to choose areas with a southern or southwestern exposure.
2. Determine the soil type.
Cucumbers need fertile soil rich in organic matter and nutrients. If the soil in your area is not suitable for cucumbers, you can add organic fertilizers such as compost or humus.
3. Prepare the bed.
The bed should be about 90 cm wide and about 20 cm deep. Break the bed into individual rows and mark their boundaries. Then remove weeds and debris from the area to ensure better drainage and avoid diseases.
Once the above steps have been completed, it is time to start planting the seeds.
Cucumber seeds can be planted in April or May when the soil warms up to 15-20 degrees Celsius. Plant the seeds at a depth of about 2 cm with a distance between rows of about 40-50 cm.
