There is no more annoying and widespread garden pest than aphids.
There are hundreds of species of these insects that attack apple, cherry, sweet cherry, grape, and plum trees.
Aphids and plums
Plum, along with viburnum and linden, is especially loved by this pest. Therefore, experienced gardeners do not recommend planting other crops under these trees.
Although some gardeners claim that aphids do not like the aroma of the following plants:
- mint;
- cilantro;
- fennel;
- marigolds;
- basil.
If aphids have settled on a plum tree, summer residents use a simple remedy that is rightfully considered a folk remedy.
Aphid Remedy
Specialized preparations for pest control are not needed. If the aphids have just started to show themselves, a home solution will suffice.
To do this, use water (1 l) and liquid soap (3-4 tbsp). Mix the liquid thoroughly and get to work.
The plum affected by aphids is sprayed. All leaves are carefully treated. Due to the aphids' activity, some of them curl up strongly. Inside, the pest arranges a whole house for itself. Therefore, the leaves are unfolded and thoroughly sprayed.
What's the secret?
Aphids breathe through their skin. After liquid hits them, a soapy film forms that envelops the insects.
The pest will lose the ability to breathe and will fall dead due to lack of oxygen. One thorough treatment will destroy up to 90-95% of insects.
Then they observe for several days and, if necessary, carry out repeated spraying, which puts an end to the issue of aphids on the plum.
