To grow strong onions, experienced gardeners apply three additional fertilizers per season.
The first time “treats” are given in the phase of green feather formation, the second – after 2-3 weeks (head growth), the third – about half a month before digging.
The first feeding is very important – it is carried out 10-14 days after the onion feathers have emerged from the ground.
It is important to understand that if there is little nitrogen in the soil, the onion feathers may slow down in growth and become pale or yellowish.
Therefore, the plant should be "treated" with fertilizers containing this very nitrogen. These are ammonium nitrate, urea, carbamide, ammonium sulfate, calcium nitrate.
And now the "recipe": dilute 1.5 tablespoons of granules of any of these fertilizers in 10 liters of water. You can water either at the root or with a watering can.
You can also feed them with herbal infusion, horse, chicken or rabbit droppings.
True, in this case the procedure for preparing the solution is not as simple as with purchased fertilizers.
So, if you use mullein or rabbit manure, you need to soak 2 kilos of raw material in 10 liters of water (leave for five to seven days in a warm place).
Before watering, stir the mixture, diluting each liter of infusion with 10 liters of clean water. Only after that, water, and at the root.
We prepare a solution using chicken manure in almost the same way, but before watering we dilute only half a liter of the infusion in a bucket of clean water.
If we are talking about herbs, we collect a full bucket of weeds, fill it completely with water, close the lid and store it in a warm place for a week.
Next, dilute every two liters of the mixture in a bucket of clean water and water the onion at the root.
