In addition to the mole cricket, Colorado potato beetle and whitefly, the carrot fly is no less annoying to gardeners. To ensure that the pest leaves the plantings alone, the following measures are taken.
Natural remedies
The pest does not like some smells that plants emit. You can save carrots by planting parsley, parsnips or celery.
Improvised means
Dacha veterans also remember such a method as treating plantings with naphthalene. It is not used in its pure form, but mixed with sand in a ratio of 1:10, after which it is evenly applied to the bed. This same remedy saves onion and garlic plantings.
You can also add ash, then for 2 parts of naphthalene you need to add 10 parts of ash and sand.
Prevention
This point cannot be excluded. To reduce headaches, you need to choose a suitable place for the carrot bed. It should be a sunny and well-ventilated area.
The carrot fly is more likely to thrive in the shade, in conditions of high humidity, than in the hot sun.
Don't forget to remove all rotting vegetation in a timely manner.
