Experienced gardeners know for sure: the better the hydrangea meets the early spring, the more lush the bushes and the more abundant the flowering will be.

Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told where to start fertilizing hydrangea.

First of all, it is worth noting that the suitable period for applying the first fertilizer lasts from April to May.

You can understand that you need to act by the swollen and even open buds of the bush.

There is no need to rush in this case - otherwise the leaves will rush to grow, and they may face cold weather that is destructive for them.

What fertilizers are suitable for hydrangea

In order to feed the bush for the first time in the coming season, you can use targeted products from the store, nitrogen mixtures or organic matter (except ash).

Before you start fertilizing, measure the pH level – it should be 5.5.

After this, prepare the bush by loosening the top layer of soil in the trunk circle. If the soil is wet, you can add a nutrient composition, but if it is dry, you should water it first.

The final touch that should not be forgotten is mulching using organic matter – pine litter, pine bark, pine cones, high-moor peat, etc.
