How to revive apple tree buds and flowers after frost: a summer cottage trick

If a wave of sub-zero temperatures occurs at the time when fruit trees are flowering, they may need help.

Experienced gardeners are not asleep at this moment. They act in a timely manner, thanks to which they preserve the harvest.

Frosts

First of all, weather surprises are dangerous for trees that are blooming or have finished blooming. At 0 °C, most of the fading flowers and ovaries that have appeared by this time perish on an apple tree.
Buds and recently closed flowers can withstand short-term drops to -2 … -3 °C.

Thus, frosts are less dangerous for apple trees that did not have time to bloom or did so before the cold weather.

How to help an apple tree

Experienced gardeners note that at the first stage, summer residents need to relieve buds and flowers from stress.

This can be done with a simple procedure of spraying with cold water. After that, the branches are covered with a light non-woven material (spunbond, geotextile). If the temperature after this reaches +15 … +18 °C, the cover is not removed for 7 days.

On the third day after treatment, the ends of the shelter are opened. This is necessary so that the branches, flowers, and buds are ventilated and continue to develop harmoniously.

Top dressing

After the return frosts, the apple tree will benefit from additional feeding. Therefore, after spraying and covering the tree, any nitrogen fertilizer should be applied. As for antidepressant drugs, in this case they are of no use.
