The thick, sticky juice secreted by plums, cherries, peaches and a number of other trees is familiar to many gardeners.
A yellow substance appears on the trunk when it is damaged by rodents or diseases. In many cases, the appearance of resin should not cause concern. But sometimes this symptom cannot be ignored.
Frost cracks
The main reason for gum to appear is frost cracks. If characteristic signs appear on the trunk of a cherry tree, gardeners act immediately.
1. The substance is cut off along with 4-5 mm of healthy tissue.
2. Disinfect the wound with a 1% solution of copper sulfate.
3. The final step is to cover the damaged area with garden putty.
Fungal infection
There are a number of tree diseases caused by fungus. For example, cytosporosis. The disease can be identified by characteristic signs: the bark cracks, gum appears.
Cytosporosis is one of the serious diseases. Necrotic-cancerous disease is treated only in the early stages. Therefore, it is easier to prevent the disease from appearing.
To do this, whitewash and, in the spring, additionally spray with a 1% solution of copper sulfate or Bordeaux mixture.
