An experienced gardener explained what certain weeds in a plot “say.”
Sheila Das told us which plants indicate the quality of the soil, and which ones can be useful for a gardener.
Nettle
This plant is most often found in areas where the soil is rich in nitrogen. The gardener noted that such summer residents do not need to be overzealous in applying fertilizer.
"The weed 'tells you' what's going on underground. So don't think of it as an enemy, it's your advisor," the Mirror quotes the expert as saying.
Dandelions
The pollen and nectar of the plant attract beneficial insects, which incidentally pollinate not only the dandelion. In a similar way, bees are lured to the site by the thistle.
The gardener noted that these plants are useful, but their spread needs to be controlled, otherwise the garden will soon be strewn with dandelions.
Teasel
This weed is a bad sign for gardeners. It indicates poor soil that needs urgent fertilization.
Ivy
The plant is loved by caterpillars, so it takes the brunt of the attack, protecting other crops on the site.
