Return frosts “steal” up to a third of the potential harvest from summer residents.
It is possible to resist them, but you will have to work a little to protect the plants and not lose a significant part of the harvest.
Covering materials
The most common and reliable option is to cover the plants with spunbond, glass or cut plastic bottles, polyethylene film, etc.
But it is very important that the covering material does not touch the plants, i.e. in some cases low arches or supports may be needed.
Sprinkling
A more troublesome method, but also an effective option. A few hours before the predicted frosts, thoroughly water all plants - both in open and closed soil.
The water, evaporating, will warm the air and protect the plantings. Fruit trees are watered abundantly at the root. The water temperature is +10 … +15 °C. Consumption per adult plant is 5-10 buckets.
The downside of this method is that it is most effective to water the plantings a few hours before frost, which usually occurs before dawn.
