A leaky bucket is quite suitable for carrying the harvest.
You can safely put potatoes, carrots, and beets in such a container.
If the holes in the bottom are not huge, the vegetables will remain in the container, but the soil will spill out, which is only welcome.
If the holes are so large that the root vegetables themselves begin to fall out, then it is better to completely remove the bottom, replacing it with a metal mesh.

A bucket with a mesh bottom can be used as a device to keep the area under a drainpipe or tap dry.
It is enough to bury the inverted container in a place where a lot of water constantly accumulates.
It is desirable that the bucket creates a cavity. Then the moisture will immediately penetrate deep. But the top layer of soil will remain dry: no puddles and no dirt.
