Worms in raspberries are a delicate problem that summer residents try to solve without aggressive “chemicals”.
Pests breed in berries that end up on the table. No one wants to eat a crop that has been sprayed with chemicals.
Berries grown on your own plot are famous first of all for their eco-friendliness. To prevent worms from appearing in raspberries, gardeners use a folk remedy as a preventative measure.
Where do worms come from in raspberries
They love neglected areas where the same layer of mulch lies until it completely rots, weeds are torn off 1-2 times a year, leaves and other debris are not removed.
Excellent conditions are created for wintering pests, which, with the arrival of warm weather, multiply and move to the bushes, where they feed on berries.
Remontant varieties are less often affected by worms. Therefore, gardeners who want less trouble plant this type of raspberry.
Wormy raspberries - what to do
Preventive measures are carried out in early spring: sanitary pruning of bushes, cleaning of the area, treatment with Bordeaux mixture. A 3% mixture is used before the buds open.
The following folk remedies are used to combat worms on raspberries.
1. During the flowering period, prepare a soda solution. Dissolve soda in boiled water - 2 tbsp. per 10 liters of water, then cool and treat the leaves, flowers, shoots. Spray once a week. Soda will not affect the taste of the harvest, but it will kill pests.
2. Mustard infusion. 100 g of powder is diluted in water to form a mixture resembling sour cream in consistency. Then the mustard is poured with a bucket of water and infused for a day. The resulting solution is sprayed on the bushes.
3. Tobacco infusion. 200 g of tobacco leaves (tobacco dust) are poured with 10 liters of boiling water. Infuse for a day, then filter and spray raspberries.
Experienced gardeners recommend planting onions and garlic near the bushes. It is believed that these crops repel pests and attract insect helpers.
