Cabbage white is considered one of the main enemies of cabbage, not without reason.
However, it is not the butterfly itself that poses a danger to garden crops, but its larvae.
The fact is that cabbage white caterpillars “attack” the plant’s leaf blades and gnaw “passages” in the heads of cabbage.
In specialized stores you can find many chemical remedies against cabbage whites.
There are other tricks, too. They are related to specific planting dates, weed removal, and soil cultivation.
But why choose difficult (and sometimes not the safest) methods of fighting the cabbage white butterfly? After all, there is a fairly simple method that does not require much effort from the gardener.
So, it is enough to choose a suitable “neighbor” for the cabbage - and no caterpillars will appear.
Green
Some varieties of greenery repel cabbage whites with their bright aroma.
Dill, parsley and fennel have this property.
Keeping these plants close to cabbage reduces the risk of butterflies laying eggs on the leaves of the vulnerable garden crop.
Vegetables
Some vegetable crops can also protect cabbage from pests.
Experienced gardeners have long noticed that tomatoes and eggplants are excellent “neighboring” plants.
Growing cabbage next to these vegetables reduces the risk of caterpillars appearing in the garden.
