Many gardeners make the same mistakes year after year, and then get upset that they again fail to grow large, juicy and tight heads of cabbage.
What kind of cabbage is sown in April
First of all, mid-season and late varieties of white cabbage are sown. In addition, kohlrabi, broccoli, red cabbage, ornamental cabbage and late varieties of cauliflower are sown for seedlings.
Preparing the garden bed
Ideally, this should be done in the fall. It is at the end of the season that organic matter is added to the soil for digging, which will have time to rot in a few months.
In spring, soil liming is carried out by adding dolomite flour, lime or chalk. Any of the three powders is scattered over the entire area of the bed during active snow melting.
Disinfection of seeds
The seeds are kept in hot water (+48 …+50 °C) for 20 minutes. Immediately after this, the planting material is moved to cold water. Then the seeds are dried and sowing begins. Wet treatment protects cabbage from vascular bacteriosis.
Sowing
The seeds are evenly distributed in the furrows and then sprinkled with soil. The bed is thoroughly watered and covered with polyethylene film. Usually, shoots appear in 5-6 days.
