In ancient times, people were selective about which trees to plant in their yard and which plants to stay away from.
Ancestors believed that each seedling had its own purpose. For example, some trees could be used for building or decorating a house, while others should be avoided and never planted near a window of a hut.
Willow
The tree itself evokes associations with something sad and gloomy. There was a myth that the willow was a "vampire tree". According to legend, its branches were inhabited by the souls of drowned people, who took the energy of the living and drove them into depression. Even psychologists note that the willow is an image of despondency and despair.
Aspen
Ancestors believed that aspen leaves sway from the slightest breath of wind for a reason. People believed that these were spirits communicating with each other. Aspen was also considered a tree that draws out human energy.
Poplar
The Slavs believed that the poplar accumulates negative energy and then directs it at people. It was considered especially dangerous to fall asleep under this tree: supposedly a person doomed himself to illness.
Bird cherry
The bark of the plant is poisonous. Probably because of this, in ancient times people concluded that bird cherry is a source of evil, so it has no place on the site.
Rowan
For some people, flowering rowan can cause dizziness, headaches and nausea. It is not surprising that the tree has been branded with all sorts of superstitions and beliefs.
