Experienced gardeners advise applying the first fertilizer a week after the snow melts.
Some gardeners rush and scatter fertilizer directly on the snow. It is believed that this way the nutrients will get to the roots faster.
Aeration before applying fertilizer
If the area is swampy or flooded by rain, then aeration is a must. Without it, the value of fertilizers drops significantly.
For this, a pitchfork is used. The prongs are inserted vertically along the garlic beds, then lowered to a sufficient depth and rocked. This way, summer residents provide air access to the roots.
First feeding
To stimulate active growth after winter, use ammonium nitrate, which contains the required amount of nitrogen.
After such feeding, garlic will start growing faster, and the plant’s immunity will become stronger.
For 10 liters of water, use 25 g of ammonium nitrate. Pour the solution into a watering can and water the garlic bed.
Two weeks after the first feeding, apply the second one. Use any ready-made fertilizer that contains potassium, phosphorus and a small amount of nitrogen.
