The very first berries of the new season are produced by honeysuckle and, as experts say, these are not the most useless berries in the diet, which is important after a long winter.

At the same time, the bush grows on its own and does not require much attention. But what will happen if you pay more attention to the plant than usual, many do not even think about.

We will tell you how to care for honeysuckle in spring.

1. Trimming

It is necessary to have time before the buds swell, and therefore they begin at the very beginning of spring. Dry and broken branches are cut off, as well as everything that thickens the crown. Formative pruning is planned for autumn.

2. Watering

If the plant does not have enough moisture, the harvest will be worthless. There may be enough moisture after spring and if it rains. In other cases, the bush is watered once every 2 weeks in the amount of 3-4 buckets of water.

3. Top dressing

Before flowering, add 30 grams of ammonium nitrate per 1 square meter. From organic matter, choose humus or rotted manure (up to 5 kg per bush). During flowering, add 1 liter of wood ash per 1 bush.

4. Mulching

You can avoid the soil drying out if you add mulch after pruning and fertilizing. It will also protect against cold and overheating.

5. Spraying

It is not carried out for feeding, but to attract pollinating insects. Honey or sugar syrup is used.

6. Neighborhood

It is advisable to plant several bushes of other varieties with the honeysuckle for cross-pollination. Ideally, plant up to three different bushes together.
