Selecting quality seeds for planting vegetables and preparing the soil for planting is only half the success.
You need to prepare the seeds for sowing, even if we are talking about planting onions. Here is what you need to do with the sets before heading to the beds in the spring.
People have developed several options for this case: with soda, copper sulfate, and another more complex composition.
Processing onions with soda
To prepare the working solution you will need:
- one liter of warm water;
- one heaping teaspoon of baking soda.
Mix both ingredients and soak the onion sets in the soda solution for 30 minutes. Gardeners often use salt instead of soda.
Treatment with copper sulfate
For one liter of warm water (40-50 degrees Celsius) you will need one teaspoon of copper sulfate. The seedlings are kept in the resulting solution for 30 minutes.
Salt, potassium permanganate and ash
Salt and wood ash are mixed in one liter of warm water in a ratio of 1:1 (tablespoons or teaspoons). A little potassium permanganate should be added to the prepared solution. The mixture should be bright pink. Then the onion sets are soaked.
Summer residents claim that any of these compositions is a good growth stimulant.
