Why you can't plant black, red and white currants next to each other: they destroy each other

Currant is a perennial shrub that can grow and bear fruit in one place for 12-15 years, and red varieties - 20-25 years or more.

But sometimes summer residents notice that currants grow poorly, produce a weak harvest, and often get sick.

This often happens when black, red and white currants are growing side by side on a plot. Different species do not tolerate each other well.

If you plant red, black and white currants next to each other, they will negatively influence each other, suppressing growth, flowering and fruiting.

Gardeners do not plant them together, but try to "dilute" them with more favorable neighbors. For example, honeysuckle, jostaberry, cherry or strawberry.

Soon after transplantation, the plants will feel much better and begin to grow actively.

This phenomenon has a scientific basis, which is called allelopathy. Different types of currants have their own special substances that have a negative impact on the condition of related plants, slowing down and suppressing their development.
