There are years when there is a real invasion of slugs, which literally fill the entire area.
But already in the next season after the outbreak, the population of pests in the garden or vegetable garden decreases.
However, every summer resident should know what to do if the area is overrun with gastropods.
Why is it better to avoid chemicals?
Firstly, buying special products is an additional expense. Secondly, you will have to treat every meter where slugs were spotted.
Such products are often toxic, pollute the soil, and harmful substances subsequently end up in vegetables, fruits, and groundwater.
Eco-friendly methods
1. The fight against slugs begins with reducing the number of places on the site where they can hide during the day, because they are mainly active in the evening and at night. Slugs hide in damp, shady places that are covered with weeds.
2. After removing the weeds, set up simple "traps" in certain places. For example, not far from the beds where the pests are infested.
They lay out boards, pieces of plywood, shields, under which the slugs will crawl to wait out the hot day. Periodically, such "traps" are cleaned out and the pests are disposed of.
3. Slugs' natural enemies are hedgehogs, which are also active at night. Attracting hedgehogs to your property can put an end to the fight against gastropods.
